A May 16 Public Policy Polling survey found that Donald Trump would lose the 2020 presidential election to five Democrats, as well as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Two Democratic candidates would beat Trump with a majority of the vote – Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont with 54% to Trump's 40% and former Vice President Joe Biden with 52% to Trump's 39%. 14% of Trump voters would defect from Trump to Biden, while 15% would defect from Trump to Sanders.
Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Al Franken of Minnesota, and Cory Booker of New Jersey would also defeat Trump in 2020, but with only pluralities of the vote. Warren would receive 49% to Trump's 39%, Franken 46% to Trump's 38%, and Booker 46% to Trump's 39%. 10% of Trump voters would defect to Franken, while only 7% to Warren or Booker.
And then there's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The popular celebrity recently told GQ that a presidential run is "a real possibility." While 50% of voters surveyed had no opinion of The Rock, 42% said that they'd vote for him over Trump, giving The Rock a five-point margin of victory. 15% of Trump voters would defect to The Rock, the same percentage that would defect to Bernie Sanders.
With more about Donald Trump's Russia connections coming to light every day, the illegitimately elected president's approval ratings are at their lowest, with even white male voters approving of him now only by a plurality.
Trump's unpopularity bodes well for Democrats not only in 2020, but also the 2018 midterms. Democrats are more excited than Republicans for 2018 by 11 points, up six points from a month ago.
A 48% plurality also support impeaching Trump, versus 41% who oppose.
